Flora Zanzibar — Authentic Swahili Cultural Experience

9:30 AM — Welcome & Village Walk
Guests are welcomed by their Flora cultural guide and begin a gentle walk through Unguja Ukuu village.
They discover everyday Zanzibari life, traditional homes, local activities and the way families live, work and interact within the community.

10:00 AM — Dress Like a Zanzibari
Guests have the opportunity to wear traditional Swahili clothing, such as a kanga or kikoi.
The guide explains the cultural meaning of the clothing and how it is traditionally worn.

10:30 AM — Meet the Flora Mamas
Visit local women and families in the community.
Guests can:
- Meet the local mothers
- Learn about traditional household life
- See handmade crafts
- Discover how local women contribute to family and community life
- Interact and share stories

11:00 AM — From Village to Farm inside The Flora
Continue the walk toward local agricultural areas.
Guests learn about:
- Cassava
- Coconut
- Bananas
- Seasonal vegetables
- Local farming traditions
- How ingredients move from the soil to the kitchen
This connects naturally with Flora's future “From Grass to Glass” concept.

11:30 AM — Fishing & Coastal Life Story
The guide introduces the importance of fishing to Zanzibar's coastal communities.
Guests learn about traditional fishing methods, local fishermen, the sea, and how seafood becomes part of everyday Swahili cuisine.

12:00 PM — Arrive at The Flora Zanzibar
Guests are welcomed at The Flora Zanzibar with live traditional music and hospitality.
A refreshing local drink or coconut is served while guests relax in the garden.

12:15 PM — Choose Your Ingredients
Guests explore local ingredients and select some of the foods that will be used for their lunch.
The guide explains where the ingredients come from and their role in Swahili cuisine.

12:30 PM — Hands-On Swahili Cooking
This is the heart of the Flora experience.
Guests join local cooks to prepare an authentic Swahili meal using traditional techniques and Zanzibar spices.
Depending on the day's menu, guests may participate in:
- Coconut preparation
- Spice grinding
- Vegetable preparation
- Fish preparation
- Making traditional sauces
- Cooking over traditional fire
- Preparing local drinks
Hands-on cooking is a particularly strong cultural component in Zanzibar experiences because it connects agriculture, spices, family traditions and food. Expert Africa

1:45 PM — Swahili Lunch
Sit together in the Flora garden/majlis and enjoy the meal prepared during the experience.

2:30 PM — Relax & Conversation
After lunch, guests have time to relax for approximately one hour.
They can enjoy the garden, talk with their hosts, take photographs and simply experience the peaceful atmosphere of Flora.

3:30 PM — Local Shopping & Farewell
Before departure, guests have an opportunity to purchase locally made products and souvenirs from community members.
The experience concludes with a warm Swahili farewell.
